April 18, 2022

We are still on a short hiatus from Characters of the Bible.
We promise we'll get back to Jeremiah soon, but for now...

Today we celebrate the "Superbowl" of Christian Holidays...

Resurrection Sunday (Easter)!

Pastor Harvey leads the children (and any parents that join in) in the search for a miracle (this is in honor of what the great Bishop William Cruver used to do every year when he preached on Easter morning!)

We continue to pray that you will invite Jesus into your life and make Him Lord of your life, if you haven't already.
And if you need to take care of this please call Pastor Harvey at 323-316-7131 and he will be glad to pray with you.

Here is a reminder of our church building Sunday schedule..

10 am - Highland Park Christian Church main worship service

After singing a few songs, then as a congregation we read together aloud the following scripture...

1 Corinthians 15:1-8 NASB

[1] Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand,

[2] by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

[3] For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

[4] and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

[5] and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

[6] After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;

[7] then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;

[8] and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.

Here is the text from the sermon.

Matthew 27:46 KJV, Mark 15:34

[46] And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Luke 23:34, 43, 46 KJV

[34] Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

“Luke 23:43 KJV

[43] And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

[46] And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

John 19:26-27 KJV

[26] When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

[27] Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

John 19:28 KJV

[28] After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

John 19:30 KJV

[30] When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

J. Vernon McGee

Evangelist - Pastor

Why is there no description of the actual suffering of Jesus recorded in the Gospels?

We will see that Matthew does not give a record of the actual crucifixion. In fact, no Gospel writer does that. They merely tell what went on around the Cross. I know that there are men who depict in graphic terms how the nails were driven into the quivering flesh and how the blood spurted out, but that is not in the Bible. In the inspired record it is as if God placed the mantle of darkness over the last three hours of the life of Jesus on the Cross and said, “This is something you cannot look at. It is beyond human comprehension. The suffering cannot be fathomed.” It was a transaction between the Father in heaven and the Son on the Cross. The Cross became an altar upon which the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, was offered.

Again, Denise and I are available for prayer.
