Waiting to Reopen in 2020-Here is What We Are Doing to Keep YOU Safe when We Return

WE WERE REOPENED FOR LIVE  WORSHIP AT HIGHLAND PARK CHRISTIAN CHURCH
HERE IS WHAT WE ARE DOING TO KEEP YOU SAFE but New COVID-19 numbers have closed us down again.

First of all a HUGE "Thank You" to all who have been supporting our church both prayerfully and financially throughout these times.

I am sorry to inform you all that we are closing our doors again.  We have done done nothing wrong as a congregation in our worship.  You KNOW that we followed all the safety measures that had been recommend by the CDC, our state and our city health officials.  Thank you for complying with this in the past.

I do not believe that our little church contributed to the spread of this virus, but we don't want to "rock the boat".   The State governor and the mayor have requested (almost ordered, but not quite) that we close our doors to public worship (again).

The stats for COVID-19 have spiked.  As soon as the city of Los Angeles gets the numbers down again we will reopen for public worship while maintaining the COVID-19 safety protocols that are outlined below.

It has truly been a joy, a pleasure and a blessing to prepare the online-worship pages for you and your little ones, which we will continue to do throughout this time.

We want to remind you, that The Church is NOT our building (as you know), so really the The Church has never closed, (Matthew 16:17-18).

We thank all of you who have maintained Christlike characteristics throughout this time.  Many have reached out and offered love and assistance to those in and outside of The Church and continue to do so.

This page will serve as an updated source of information for you to keep you informed about our building reopening process and procedures.

We Re-Opened for Church Services
on Sunday, May 31, 2020

and then closed again, until governor/mayor orders differently

Steps we take at Highland Park Christian Church to help you worship in safety.

Again, we are closed again for public worship as of July 19, 2020.

When we get to reopen for worship, you do not need to feel obligated to return yet.

If you are in an "at risk" category, please stay home and take care of yourself.

We will miss and pray for you, but your health is of paramount importance.

Additionally, we will record and upload the message to this site after the service for those that cannot join us yet.

Please take time to read the following...
As we still need to be responsible and vigilant during this time when reopen.

Face masks are required for entry

Please bring your own face mask that covers your nose and your mouth.

Hymnals have been removed

Hymnals have been removed from the seats. We will worship with the lyrics on screen.  We WILL sing while donning our face masks.

NO children's Sunday School

We love children and would love to have you bring them to worship with us, but unfortunately, at this time we cannot accommodate children's Sunday School.

Social Distancing guidelines are applied

We have taped off every other row to keep that 6' distance and request that family groups stick together.

This means smaller gatherings, if we need to do a second service, then we will.  You may be asked to return later.

Social Distance Estimates

Hand sanitizer is now available

Bottle of hand sanitizer is available near the entryway of the church.  (But you are welcome to bring your own.)

We look forward to seeing you when we can reoopen and will keep you informed.

If you are able to join us, please come on by.  We will welcome you from a distance with an "air-hug";  that is a wave!.. But rest assured, we will be smiling under our masks and would love for you to join us if possible.

2020-05-24-Sunday School and Worship-Memorial Day Sunday

What does REAL love look like?

Sacrificing yourself for the good of others.

This weekend's worship and message is about the sacrificial love that has been displayed by heroes on the battlefields of war, medicine, ideas, philosophy and of course, the spiritual realm.

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.

All right!
Hey little ones, and little ones at heart, join Mrs. Denise as she prays with you, leads you in fun songs and tells you a great story of love, rescue and protecting of Peter while he was telling everyone about Jesus.

As you listen, let's think about how can God helped Peter and how YOU can help others.

Two Songs this week.

Take it away Mrs. Denise...

In a Very Big Way

Nah nah nah nah nah,
hidey hidey hey,
God loves you in a very big way.

Nah nah nah nah nah,
hidey hidey hey,
God loves you in a very big way.

When you’re afraid,
God loves you, hidey hey!
When you’re sad,
in a very big way,

When you need help,
hidey hidey hey,
He’ll help you in a very big way.

Nah nah nah nah nah,
hidey hidey hey,
God loves you in a very big way.

Nah nah nah nah nah,
hidey hidey hey,
God loves you in a very big way.
God loves you in a very big way.

God Loves Us

God loved us,
   (Clap three times.)
God loved us, (Clap three times.)
God loved us, (Clap three times.)
God loved us and sent His Son.

As we prepare to worship online,
let's open our hearts,
our eyes and our minds to what God wants to share with us this week in worship songs and His word.

Memorial Day is day to reflect and be grateful for the freedoms we enjoy
because of those men and women that gave their last full measure of devotion.

GOOD NEWS - We will probably be opening up the church building with actual, live services next week -
of course we will follow the social distancing and hygienic guidelines to keep everyone as safe as possible.  Thank you for sticking with us during this time.

Until next time, Love in Christ

Memorial Day Message of Sacrifice and Love

2020-05-17-Sunday School and Worship-Would a Loving God REALLY Send People to Hell?

Big question today, and one that EVERY Christian must answer to the unbeliever when they are making a case for Christ.

Would a LOVING God REALLY send people to hell?

Jesus encourages us about God's love in Matthew 10:28-31, and tells us that as His disciples, we do not have to worry about being destroyed (punished) in hell.

Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.  Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

Hey little ones, and little ones at heart, join Mrs. Denise as she pray, sings and tells you the wonderful story of a very kind lady right from the Bible. This story is full of kindness that she showed to others and that others showed to her all because of their love for Jesus.

As you listen, let's think about how can YOU be kind to others this week?

J. Warner Wallace's Book - God's Crime Scene

This is one of Pastor Harvey's favorite books!
And he keeps it on his Kindle to refer to it often.
It examines the case for the God of the Bible.
J. Warner Wallace treats the universe as a crime scene and looks for a "Divine Intruder" - (weird name to call God, right?)

Check it out and be prepared to answer questions from non-believers.

2020-05-10-Sunday School and Worship-Mothers’ Day

Moms come in all shapes, sizes and personalities...but one thing I think most people can agree on, MOST (not all, but MOST) mothers truly love their children and would do just about anything for them.

So today we celebrate all mothers with an excerpt from the book of Ruth.

Give your mom a call today if she is still on terra firma.  If your mother no longer is here on earth, pray for someone you know is a mother.

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Don't forget to watch the video after the sermon video.  Usually we splice the videos together into one video, but this week they are separate.

Oh, by the way, since it is Mothers' Day, the mother of my children got to choose all the songs this week!

2020-05-03-Sunday School and Worship-Why Does God Allow Good People to Suffer?

We hope all are doing well, staying safe and loving Jesus (of course).

How did that challenge go last week?
Do you remember?
We asked you to SHOW the LOVE of God to someone.

Let's try it again this week.

As we prepare to worship online,
let's open our hearts,
our eyes and our minds to what God wants to share with us this week in worship songs and His word,

let's think about HOW we can tangibly share God's love...
especially with those OUTSIDE of His church now.

Let them know that God's church and God Himself cares and loves them!

In the comments below this page, how about SHARING how YOU will show God's love THIS week!
Thanks!

We are sure your words WILL inspire others.
Let's be the BEST church we can be!

Until next time, Love in Christ

God loves you in a very big way.

Another week indoors, BUT God STILL is in charge.
Even though you are "watching" church,
but remember that The Church is NOT a spectator sport.

As you worship (with those in your "social circle") remember...

God loves YOU!
Jesus died for YOU!
Pastors Harvey and Denise are praying for YOU during this time...

This week's message we continue  with the Sermon Series, Tough Questions: Christian Answers.

Please comment below, let's fill them up with words of encouragement to anyone who happens to "stumble" upon this post.

And Now It's Time to Worship Christ

Who Am I  - Casting Crowns

Our first song reminds us who we are in Christ.  And who Christ is to us.

Crowder reminds us where all of our hope should be residing.

All My Hope Is in Jesus - Crowder

A Mighty Fortress - Martin Luther

(see below the video for the lyrics to sing along with)

Sing along with David Wesley and his virtual choir.

A Mighty Fortress

A mighty Fortress is our God, A Bulwark never failing;
Our Helper He amid the flood Of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, And, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
2
Did we in our own strength confide, Our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, The Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth His Name, From age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
3
That word above all earthly powers, No thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours  Through Him who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, This mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,
His Kingdom is forever.
