Jeremiah 10-13 - Jeremiah Part 4

March 27, 2022
King Josiah has died in battle and the nation of Judah returns to their idolatrous ways. God gives some forewarning to Jeremiah to share with the people and he also has Jeremiah complete a very graphic object lesson regarding Judah's wanderlust after other gods.

After singing a few songs, then as a congregation we read together aloud the following scripture...
2 Timothy 3:1-5, 10-16 - NASB
2 Timothy 3:1-5 - Difficult Times Will Come
3 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, slanderers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,
4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
5 holding to a form of godliness although they have denied its power; avoid such people as these.
2 Timothy 3:10-16
10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,
11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me!
12 Indeed, all who want to live in a godly way in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
13 But evil people and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness;
17 so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.

Here is the text from the sermon.
Jeremiah 10-13
Jeremiah 10:6-10 NASB
[6] There is none like You, O LORD; You are great, and great is Your name in might.
[7] Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? Indeed it is Your due! For among all the wise men of the nations And in all their kingdoms, There is none like You.
[8] But they are altogether stupid and foolish In their discipline of delusion-their idol is wood!
[9] Beaten silver is brought from Tarshish, And gold from Uphaz, The work of a craftsman and of the hands of a goldsmith; Violet and purple are their clothing; They are all the work of skilled men.
[10] But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth quakes, And the nations cannot endure His indignation.
Jeremiah 11:18-23 NASB
[18] Moreover, the LORD made it known to me and I knew it; Then You showed me their deeds.
[19] But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter; And I did not know that they had devised plots against me, saying, "Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, And let us cut him off from the land of the living, That his name be remembered no more."
[20] But, O LORD of hosts, who judges righteously, Who tries the feelings and the heart, Let me see Your vengeance on them, For to You have I committed my cause.
[21] Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, "Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, so that you will not die at our hand";
[22] therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, "Behold, I am about to punish them! The young men will die by the sword, their sons and daughters will die by famine;
[23] and a remnant will not be left to them, for I will bring disaster on the men of Anathoth-the year of their punishment."
Jeremiah 12:14-17 NASB
[14] Thus says the LORD concerning all My wicked neighbors who strike at the inheritance with which I have endowed My people Israel, "Behold I am about to uproot them from their land and will uproot the house of Judah from among them.
[15] And it will come about that after I have uprooted them, I will again have compassion on them; and I will bring them back, each one to his inheritance and each one to his land.
[16] Then if they will really learn the ways of My people, to swear by My name, 'As the LORD lives,' even as they taught My people to swear by Baal, they will be built up in the midst of My people.
[17] But if they will not listen, then I will uproot that nation, uproot and destroy it," declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 13:1-11 NASB
[1] Thus the LORD said to me, "Go and buy yourself a linen waistband and put it around your waist, but do not put it in water."
[2] So I bought the waistband in accordance with the word of the LORD and put it around my waist.
[3] Then the word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying,
[4] "Take the waistband that you have bought, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates and hide it there in a crevice of the rock."
[5] So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD had commanded me.
[6] After many days the LORD said to me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates and take from there the waistband which I commanded you to hide there."
[7] Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the waistband from the place where I had hidden it; and lo, the waistband was ruined, it was totally worthless.
[8] Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
[9] "Thus says the LORD, 'Just so will I destroy the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
[10] This wicked people, who refuse to listen to My words, who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts and have gone after other gods to serve them and to bow down to them, let them be just like this waistband which is totally worthless.
[11] For as the waistband clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and the whole household of Judah cling to Me,' declares the LORD, 'that they might be for Me a people, for renown, for praise and for glory; but they did not listen.'

J. Vernon McGee
Evangelist
"It is impossible for an unsaved person to do good. All of the do–gooders are not really pleasing God. Until a man does his work in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and for His glory and honor, he is simply doing the work for himself for selfish reasons. No genuine goodness can come out of an evil heart."
